Borrowed Power

Also known as Charyeok (차력), is power borrowed from gods, creatures, objects or people and manifests as abilities the user can apply in combat or day to day life. Wounds inflicted by borrowed power could not be healed with nanotech pre-Ragnarok [4], while a national treasure can amplify it. [3]

It is a system originally built by the gods for them to lend their power to humans at the cost of their life energy.

Its strength is measured in God Points (GP).

Types of Borrowed Power

Basic Borrowed Power

If fortunate enough to be able to form a connection with a power lender, anyone can use this type of borrowed power in exchange for bio energy.

Direct Contract

By forming a direct contract with the lender, the user can draw power directly from them, allowing them to use all of it instead of just a portion. However, it also allows for the lender to steal more of their life energy.

Power Lenderization

It is only available to direct descendants of the lender. It allows the user to use the full extent of the lender's powers as if it were the lender, at times even possessing the borrower.

Known Power Lenderization users:

  • Q - The Joker

  • Samuel Rosinante - Hercules

  • Jose Natasha Violeta Alexandros - Philip II

  • Alexandros - Alexander the Great (assumed)

Primeval Borrowed Power

When the three species coexisted for many millennia, the demons tried to subjugate humans. One of the leaders at the time, Kim Ungnyeo, asked the gods for help and they agreed to lend humanity their powers, resulting in the first known instance of borrowed power being directly infused into human bodies. The first stage was through imitation, the Primeval Borrowed Powers' full forms resembling insects. [5]

Power is drawn directly from the gods themselves, granting its users immense power which comes at a similarly immense cost, the people using it either growing older or younger, overusage being fatal.

Known users and borrowed powers:

  • Kim Ungnyeo - Trinity: The Gods of the Wind, the Rain, and the Clouds

  • Sang Mandeok - Beelzebub

  • Peixes Tac Tung Xiaochen - Kabbalah

  • Romario Traviola - Asura

The Taboo

The god Hwanung fell in love with Ungnyeo and decided to destroy the system, allowing humanity to be free of the aftereffects of borrowed power. Hwanung was brutally executed, and as a result, the three species were divided into different realms, with Okhwang remaining in the Human Realm to keep the humans in check and prevent them from abusing the newer form of the borrowed power system. Afraid of humanity's potential, the gods placed the Taboo on humanity, which only the Keys can break. [1]

Borrowing power became commonplace and human abilities were enhanced after Ultio R broke the Taboo.

The Key

Described as "the existence that will drag the gods from Heaven" [2], Keys are extremely powerful Borrowed Powers born from immense wrath towards the gods, the lenders opposing and seeking revenge against them.

  • Lee Sujin's Pandora

  • Park Ilpyo's Hojosa
